ON p-COMPLETED CLASSIFYING SPACES OF DISCRETE GROUPS AND FINITE COMPLEXES

چکیده
We show that for certain discrete p-perfect groups G, in particular for all pperfect groups of finite cohomological dimension, the loop space on the p-completed classifying space ΩBGp is a retract of the loop spaces on a certain finite complex. For finite vcd groups we provide a bound on the the dimension of such a complex.

Construction of 2–local finite groups of a type studied by Solomon and Benson
A p–local finite group is an algebraic structure with a classifying space which has many of the properties of p–completed classifying spaces of finite groups. In this paper, we construct a family of 2–local finite groups, which are exotic in the following sense: they are based on certain fusion systems over the Sylow 2–subgroup of Spin7(q) (q an odd prime power) shown by Solomon not to occur as...
متن کاملON THE HOMOTOPY GROUPS OF p-COMPLETED CLASSIFYING SPACES
Among the generalizations of Serre’s theorem on the homotopy groups of a finite complex we isolate the one proposed by Dwyer and Wilkerson. Even though the spaces they consider must be 2-connected, we show that it can be used to both recover known results and obtain new theorems about p-completed classifying spaces.
متن کاملEXTENSIONS OF p-LOCAL FINITE GROUPS
A p-local finite group consists of a finite p-group S, together with a pair of categories which encode “conjugacy” relations among subgroups of S, and which are modelled on the fusion in a Sylow p-subgroup of a finite group. It contains enough information to define a classifying space which has many of the same properties as p-completed classifying spaces of finite groups. In this paper, we stu...
متن کاملNovikov-Shubin invariants for arbitrary group actions and their positivity
We extend the notion of Novikov-Shubin invariant for free Γ-CW complexes of finite type to spaces with arbitrary Γ-actions and prove some statements about their positivity. In particular we apply this to classifying spaces of discrete groups.
متن کاملOn The homotopy theory of p-completed classifying spaces
Let G be a discrete group and let BG denote its classifying space. Recall that a group is said to be perfect if it is equal to it’s own commutator subgroup. If G is an arbitrary group, then write BG for the Quillen “plus” construction applied to BG with respect to the unique maximal normal perfect subgroup ΠG of G [32]. The space BG can be obtained by attaching 2 and 3 cells to BG and has the d...
